Bump Stop Spacer
« on: August 13, 2008, 11:50:02 AM »
A cousin is making a 2" bump stop spacer for me.  I have spring spacers already on, and new springs waiting to install.

The question is BOLT SIZE for the Bump Stop.

Making the spacer out of 2" square tubing, whant to install the same time that I put the new springs on.

Thanks

What do you want to know how long a bolt you will need?

Depends were the bolt is in the spacer. Dont use just alum for bumstops iit will be interesting feel when you bottom out.

No, just what size ie M6x1x20 or M8x1.5x25.

I might just have to take a bump stop off and measure, put back on and drive to town to get the right bolt and then put the Tracker back up and get down to work.

I'm assuming the bumpstop has a bolt coming out of it that screw into the top.  I'm guessing the bolt is way to short to go through a 2" spacer, so I'm going to use some box tubing.  The tubing can bolt into the top mount, and then the bump stop can bolt into the tubing.

I'm hopping this is right.  Gonna kinda do the same for the rear shocks till I want to by new Crow Vic or Ford 150.  I have Strut spacers for the front.

I have OME Springs ready to go on, I just want to make sure that I don't over extend or bottom out the shocks and struts with the new springs on.

buy the shocks right away and don't bother spacing them down if that's what ur thinking..  they're around $20 each, i was running the other black 2nd gen at suzican if you recall during the beginning of capture the flag, i run mustang shocks in the rear which were about 1.5 inches longer than the crown vics extended and identical compressed length..  more travel hasn't hurt anything and no need to change any other bits, they also bolt up easier, i'd suggest having a look at them beside the crown vics.  out back i run a 1.75 inch heep spacer with xl7 coils with the stock bumpstop and no problems, i should probably have extended the stops but haven't yet, my 31's will rub slightly when fully compressed...  if you leave the stock shocks the ride will be f'ed cause there's almost no travel left.  good luck!  what strut spacers do you have?  my struts are finished and i'm pretty sure my extensions aren't going to be willing to seperate with the struts, don't want to buy ome struts...

Thanks bzzr2.  Yeah, of course I remember yah.  I wanted to stay for the pig roast and the next day's trail ride but my wife and son had had enough.  Next year I'll come with more appropriate company  ;D.

I'm looking for the Bolt size on the Bumper Stop.  I'd like to get a bit bigger then 31's for next year and I don't want to worry about rubbing when compressed.

I've two pieces of square 2" tubing for extending the rear shocks, I'm only gonna do that for the short term.  In a few months I want to put in some F150 adjustable air shocks, they're longer then the crown vic.  I want the adjustable air pressure cause I have a pop up camper, it would be nice to be able to level the ride.

I have the OME springs for the 4 door Sidekick Med Duty.  It was hard to figure which ones would be best, since Sidekicks and the GRANDE Vitara are listed, not the 2 door Vitara.  I already have R.R. spacers.

I thinks its the Boondox strut extenders.  They're sitting in the tracker waiting for the coils to be installed.  Good luck triing to separate your old extenders, give'm a good soak with penetrating oil.

See yah next year!?

i see why you would choose those shocks for your needs, good call, you will probably need to relocate the shock mount outward slighty from the axle to allow the wider f150 to clear, but if you're fabbing some bits otherwise i'm sure that won't be a problem.  just a thought but if you were interested in making a 2nd pair of rear bumpstops i'd be happy to buy them from you.  i'm looking to move to 32x9.5's next year myself, my 31's might be for sale...  i have not taken off my zr2 flares yet to have a look at the trimming required up front for the 32's...as for my strut extensions they had to be heated just to be put on, incredibly tight fit then still..

sounds like you'll be all set up for next year - see you at suzican for sure!  i took off after the capture the flag also, had other camping plans.
