New rear bumper and more
« on: February 16, 2010, 05:14:40 PM »
Ever wonder what a jeep bumper would look like on a viatara. This is my 99 tracker with a smitty built swing away rear jeep bumper. I built a mount that bolts to the bumper and attaches to the hidden hitch mounts right on the frame. so far it's working great. One small draw back is that the rear door does not open all the way. If this becomes a pain I'll just re locate the swing away position.

Also, I installed Jeep Cherokee coils in the rear. They have been a great ride. gives me about 2.75" over stock.

Nice looking bumper that holds the bigger tire but I would of lowered where the tire sits about a foot or two so that I could actually see out the back when reversing offroad....... I only have 225 75 15...... but none the less I took my back door off and reinforced the original tire holder for good measure

Thanks, seeing out the back window is not a huge concern of mine when off-road. The spare will only be on for 4x4 trips not all the time.

good to know and yeah you should not need reverse when offroading because all you should be doing is forward through everything

Hey... if it works for you then roll with it!!  Whatever works.  I had the same thought (Jeep bumpers) walking thru the local pick n pulls.  Found a NICE heavy front tube bumper on a burnt out wrangler and considered it for a few minutes but then decided it was 4" too narrow for my application.  Ended up finding an FJ40 front winch bumper at the local steel scrap yard that I ending up buying and brought home and am now figuring out best way to mount it securely.

Looks like somebody upgraded to some Outlaw wheels.... What size tires are you running on them?

Here is a link to some great designed Jeep Bumpers(click on Jeep Bumpers). I ran these on my CJ and they had great looks / and there was never a worry when it came time for a tug.

The rear bumper has a screw off cap that allows the cross bar to swing open. I had 36" x 15" Ground Hawgs on 10" Aluminium wheels and the bumper didn't even know it was hangin on there.

The tires are 31/10.5/15 Pro-Comp xtreme all-terrains.

Here are some more pictures, including the rear door issue. As you can see it opens enough...but not all the way.

I like the addition of the diamond plate. It gave it a more finished look..... very nice.

Bolt one of AFTERMARKET 4X4's gas tank skid plates on your truck and you're covered pretty good!
