Rough shifting on AT from P
« on: February 15, 2012, 04:55:33 PM »
Hello everyone. I have a problem with my tracker, When I  shift from P to N or from N to D the trans engage inmediatly, I mean, theres no a delay like normally. So, all the time I shift I have to hard press the brake to avoido to "jump".

This is worse by mornings when the engine is cold, 'cause of higher revolutions. Once hot the revolution gauge down to aorund 700, which I guess is normal, but anyway the trans engauges as soon I shift it, so, I can't shift to "D" whithout engauging Reverse making a jump.

I have my car since just a couple of months, once I had iit, I replaced all the fluids, transfer's oil included, which I had a lot of trouble finding the SAE 75W-90 GL-4 (at the end I found it on GMC dealer marked as  GMC 12378508).

My car has 150 kmiles, I don't know if I did the right thing with types of oils I used:
TRANSMISSION = Dexron II,IIE,III ATF
TRANSFER = SAE 75W-90 GL-4 GearOil  (GMC 12378508 found)
DIFFS=SAE 80W-90 GL-5 GearOil

There is no check engine code,  and I haven't found a place with AT error code reader on my town.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check of the transmission kick down cable (shift cable) is sticking.. It is the lower cable connected to the throttle body, just tug at it to see if it moves freely.

2stagevtec, Thnxs for your help, I just checked it, if I push the wire,  it offers some resistance and go back inmediatly, it seems it's actually stick it to transm.

i had the same issue on a little 97 toyota tercel and was a bad transmission or engine mount(dont remember it was over 5 years ago) the engine was tilting badly and caused a bang wen it was engaging gears.

a kickdown cable could be the issue too, just adding this in case that dosent fix your problem
