04 GV 5 speed worth the build.
« on: December 25, 2005, 07:33:46 PM »
hello all,

I have an 04 GV V6 5 speed and I would like to put a 2 inch lift, rock rails, bigger tires winch and bumper.  I am not talking about going to moab just the fire roads and easy trails around washington state.  will I have problems with the wheel bearing and cv joints if I do this?  also what size of tires can I stuff under it with a 2" lift?  I guess I should mention it is my daily driver so it gets lots of use.

thanks

Nice vehicle.  Got any pictures of the interior?  I was trying to talk the wife into getting a stick but she would have none of it so we got an auto. ::)

With a 2" lift you should be able to clear a 225/75R16 or a 235/70R16 just fine.  Some people have supposedly fit bigger but I can't comment on that.  We have some tall 225/75R16's literally WEDGED under our stock GV and we're definately lifting it now.

HINT: You can have a 2" lift for half the cost of RRO's by buying it from JDMCRX on this forum - http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=8494.0.  Just ordered mine this weekend.

You shouldn't have any big issues.  These are tough little trucks and are well designed and thought out.  Suzuki didn't change much with the proven running gear and suspension when they went to the newer body style we have.  The only downside is our post mid-03 trucks don't have any kind of traction aids available for the rear axles so far.

Here's some pictures of JDMCRX's lift and what the angles look like afterwards:

so question of the day,

my GV came stock with 17" rims and 235's so why does everyone stuff 225 's under them when they put on a lift kit?  just asking so I can understand!  I love mine.  I had a 99 Tracker before this and when it got tired I replaced it with the suzuki!  I do love the V6.

thanks

Mostly with availability... 235/70's are hard to come be, expecially in MT grade.  Plus, a 225/70 will fit without a lift, a 235/70 will rub every now and then (voice of experience).

You're probably equipped with a 235/55R17 or so stock.  That's about a 26-27" tire.  We went from stock 26" tall 235/60R16's to almost 29" tall 225/75R16's.  The height comes in with the second number in radial metric sizes, the first three digits are just the width in milimeters.  I'll gladly give up less than half an inch in width for almost 3" of height.  That and if you look around for a 225/75R16 there's many many truck tires available.  If you look for a 235/70R16 there's only a few and they're generally pretty expensive.

Now with your 17" rims...not sure what size you'd need...there aren't any 29" tall 17" rim tires in a truck pattern that I can find.  Time to start looking for a set of 16" rims me thinks... :P

Well I went out and checked again last night and I have 16 inch rims not sure where I came up with the 17 inch idea at first.  that makes me a lot happier as I was searching for tires yesterday and well lets just say I am glad that I have the 16's.  some how I had it backwards I thought the 235 was height the 70 width and the r16 rim size.  I am much happier about the selection of tires now.

thanks all

I was wondering, couldn't find any referrences to Suzuki putting 17's on them stock.

You should be able to find a nice tire in either 225/75R16 or 235/70R16.
