Questions about GV probably for JDMCRX!
« on: July 24, 2005, 05:01:38 PM »
I have a couple of questions.

First, do you know if they rack miles up while being towed?  I am looking at a Tracker ZR2 that was a tow dingy.  It has 40,000 miles on it and I want to know if the electronic speedometers gain milage while the ignition is off.

Second,  Is one and a half inches of lift all you needed to fir 235/75/15s on your GV??

Thanks,

Cwkick

Im pretty sure with the ignition off the Chip in the cluster will not accumulate KM.

BUt if it was towed u may wanna check the trans mission. Actualy ask how it was towed if they threw the transfer case in N then ur set guy.

Just ask when they towed it how they towed it.

It's an auto, so they would have had to through the t-case in neutral or disconnect the drive line.

That being said, the drivetrain might have 200,000 towed miles on it while the engine only has 40,000 on it.   :o

You didn't answer my second question.  :-\

Is an inch and a half lift all you needed to fit 235's??

Thanks,

I have an XL7 which is similar to the GV. I haven't done anything to fit the 29's (225/75R16's) up front. But they do rub, pics in the xl7 forum. At 'melt, I got a lot more rubbing as the whoopi-do's compressed the front more. Not a big deal in my part. For the rear, I've added a 2" Jeep spacer and bump stop riser. No rubbing at all at full compression.
See how big the 235's are (different manu's have different sizes). Measure the current tires on the rim. Use this info to determine if it's necessary.

Lifting the GV won't be easy as they are slightly different than the Trackick. Similar setup but the coil is stiffer, the control arm differently designed, cv's tab bit longer, brakes bigger, strut overall longer length, rack and pinion steering for the front axle. Rear axle has 2 pair of unequal length control arms as well as a track bar.

Thanks Jag!

I was looking under them and they look to be the same as an older Tracker, only different!

I am looking at a ZR2 and an LT.

The LT has a nicer interior, but the ZR2 has skid plates.

Same milage, same price, hard choice!!

They are both 2.5 V6's and auto's.

Thank you for the lift info.  I am watching for the outcome on your lift.

Don't forget to check into insurance costs. I'd like to know if there is a difference.

Since both are what you are looking for, what do you plan to do with it? Concrete mostly, little dirt, mix it up a little more, etc. Does one have a tow bar? ZR2 will be known to be more 'aftermarket-ish' later in life (once the fad of the Trackick goes down).

I drove the ZR2 yesterday.  Something just didn't "feel" right.  The lifters were VERY noisy for five to ten minute until the thing warmed up, it had a bit of a shimmy on the highway, and the tires were worn funny from being towed.  The lil'truck just didn't have any soul.

I am going to drive the LT model today and see if I like it better.  I know when I first sat in it I had a better feeling about it.

If I don't like it any better I'm just going to stay with what I have.  I really like what I have.

If I buy it I will do JDMCRX's lift with some 235's.  I will use it mostly on the street with some off road use.  Maybe get a small trailer and a dirt bike.  ;D

Wanna purchase a 02 XL7? I could probably be convince to sell even after spending $700 for the cast steel front I put in before the melt.
It has upgrade 225's MT, 53k miles, auto w/ rear air (3rd seat), has hotrod look with rear spacer in back and nothing up front, and there is slight rocker damage.
