The Verona
« on: July 11, 2004, 03:14:52 PM »
I work at a rental car company, and rented one of these myself. Very nice ride, great gas milage for a 6 cylinder, and very user friendly interior. The day I retuned it, someone else rented it for about 4 days and when they retuned it, the check engine light was on. It only has like 5,000 miles on it. My guess is the gas cap wasn't put back on properly.

That's probably the problem.  I know that some of the newer GM vehicles have an oil change reminder light too.  It threw me for a loop the first time I saw it.  :P

There's a show here in Canada called Driver Television on the Global Television Network and they will be reviewing the Verona this upcoming Sunday.  I'll see what they say and report back.

Here's a good article on the Verona: http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/rr/04verona.htm

A Porsche-developed Engine, I'm impressed. 8)

The show Driver Television had nothing but great things to say about the Verona.

I still can't believe how Suzuki's cars are so underpowered compared to the competion, even Hyundai and Kia's cars put out more torque and H.P.!!
I been looking for a 4 door car lately to replace my ranger, i looked at the forenza, but i think i'm leaning towards a Hyundai Elantra, 30 more H.P. and better gas milieage.

My wife drives a '98 Kia Sephia (now owned by Hyundai) that I bought new and it has been rock solid reliable, has 80,000 miles on it and all I've ever done is regular maintenance. Maybe I've just been lucky but it has been the best new car I've ever bought, go figure. :)

I've heard that the horsepower figures don't tell the whole truth when it comes to the Verona engine but I haven't driven one yet. Supposed to be smooth as silk.

I was given a Verona today as a loaner.  It has a somewhat harsh ride compared to my Galant and also to Suzuki's own Forenza.  The engine makes okay power once you get the revs up, but doesn't feel like a V6 would.  It feels like a smooth 4.  The fit and finish of the car is nice though.

Thanks for the info Keith. I haven't taken the time to test drive one, yet. You still thinking about trading?

I've been thinking about it but my wife is really against the idea so I think I will work on the suspension.  I may get the EMU set up.

The Verona was a decent car, but not as nice as some other mid-size cars.  The Forenza impressed me more for a car of it's class.  Plus they are selling 04's for 9500.

Sounds like a smart woman. $9500 for a new '04 :o, that would be hard to pass up.
