Sammi Timming Belt replacement
« on: March 12, 2005, 11:43:56 AM »
Hi guys, I got my hands on a very rotted sammi, Ill get more info later as I dont know much about it yet. But what I know is that it was left sitting after the timing belt broke. My question is: does a broken belt causes engine damages on these engines??(valve clearance issue) and does anyone have a walkthrough for reinstalling a new belt and making sure its timed properly?
Thanks

Changed mine 5000km's ago, crank spun the grooves off the belt like a big grinder anyways there was no valve clearance issues with mine. Turn the engine to TDC #1 cyl, check to see that rotor is at # 1 position, line up the timing marks on the sprockets, install belt. This should be pretty close(should run, but not perfect)  check with timing gun. :)

Mine is set at 10 degrees BTDC,
I got my book from crappy tire, it's not really detailed but it does give you all the tork specs etc..

Anyone know how you can go before ya lose top end?

depends on the timing light that you own do a search on the internet for you model number of timing light.

But the basics are connect pos and neg cables to battery.
connect wire to spark plug wire number one.
Aim gun at timing marks should light up every time first cylinder fires off. get a chilton or haynes manual should explain it as well. or get both and a shop manual.
