No Idea, I have 33*12.50 but no terrai experience with them yet  

not really that bigg of a differance in causing breakage but u may want to consider the wider tire to better ur chances of getting through mud. i know some people say run skinny to get to the hard bottom but alot of mud has been run through with 44" and larger tires i don't think that a 33" tire can dig to the bottom of that. to further my point i contact the head developer of superswamper tires and he told me that a wider tire has a better chance of getting through the mud due to a larger contact surface and that a fat tire will eventually dig down anyway.

Don't forget rotating mass and wind resistance.

Larger tires have more of both which affects a lot of different things like milage, acceleration, brakage and breakage.

I think the float vs dig-in arguement is pretty neglable once you get into a larger tire, on our light trucks.

I guess  it depends on your primary terrain of off-roading.

I haven't tried a 33 x10.5 but I had to do a fair bit of cutting for 33 x 9.5s on a 7" rim with 95mm backspacing. I did offer up my 33x12.5s (10" rim 105mm bs - I think) and they would have needed a LOT more cutting. The 33 x 9.5s have loads more grip anyway because the footprint is much longer. I don't need arch extensions either. The more grip you have the more your chances of breaking stuff due to transmission wind up.

i have 34/9.50's and i really can't wait to find some 33/12.50 to try and just see how it all works out.  i really would like to try some 33/15.5 Swamper TSL SX's

I second that YUP...better for tire to slip than for axle to break. Tire slips ...change your line or change gears or get a running start. You can try all three faster than you can replace an axle...

I just put some new shoes on mine about a week ago. After much thought and research and coming up with 1 tire narrower than 10". I decided to go to 235/85r16 on 16x7 rims. HOLY CRAP do they dig, I'm going places at street pressure that were giving me trouble aired down with my 31x10.5's.
