I had this exact problem occuring while offroading,very anoying,I solved it completely by doing 3 things,first cutting the bottom part of the boot inside the cabin,this boot is made of a firm rubber that was enterfering with the lever putting
pressure against it popping it out of gear as soon as the tranny slightly swayed when tork was applied,just doing that made a big difference,second I installed a brass shifter sheet from LOWRANGE OFF ROAD,third,I made a .020'' shim out of a feeler
gauge and put it on top of the spring and ball of the shift rod.Happy to say after some severe trail its working flawlless.
Ah yes,I have the 4.24 gears and no body lift.
