8V has a black valve cover, 16V
has aluminum, and I think the
spark plugs are in the middle
of the valve cover too.

The black cover is a little bad but its still an engine.  the 16V is good but the 8V still pretty good.

What you have is an 8 Valve 1.6L
engine, no worries I got one too,
Of coarse mine is turbocharged,
but it will serve you well if you
change the oil with GOOD oil
like Mobil1 or Castrol and use
a purelator filter, better than
the Fram which is junk.
(read the oil filter post)
and change every 3-5K
miles, 3 is better, factory
said 7500 Mi, so either is better
than that.

Is it a 4 wheel drive ??
or a motorhome pusher ??
;)

My '91 Sidekick is an 8 valve engine also.  It's works friggin great.  I change my oil every 3000-5000 kms and she runs so smooth...like a sewing machine.  :D

Don't worry, an 8 valve motor is nothing to worry about.  If anything, feel proud that you have a reliable and worthy motor in a GM vehicle for once! :-*

2 kinds of K&N filters,  the cone filter that won't work so well with a snorkle and then they have a drop in replacement one that fits in your stock airbox for about $35-$40 and it will work fine with a snorkle

I'm pretty sure it is Fuel Injected.
But it's a Throttle Body Type, which
is sort of like an electronic Carburettor.
