Speedracer7c was interested in the light bar I made for my Green Tracker. Here's a close-up of the one end:

That shows the mounting plate(the other side is a mirror image) and the pivot. It works pretty well with plastic-housing lightweight lights, but is not strong enough for heavy off road lights...
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

Hi Digger.

thanks for posting up the pics, i have been trying to work out a mounting system for my lights for a while now. i wanted to do what you have done, but i wasnt sure that there would be enough strength to hold up my lights. i will mounting 5 lights accross the top.

question: i see you have 2 screws each side, are these self tappers? do they go right through to the inside? have you used anything other than just screws to mount it?

i plan to make mine as solid and sturdy as possible, and i will make it so that the top can flip back with out the light bar being in the way. (which means my lights will either have to be mounted in front of the bar, or the bar needs to be infront of the radius of the top.

i think you mentioned somewhere that at speed the light bar moves and shakes a bit. and i think you also said that you were making up another one which is stronger. do you have pics for this?

thanks heaps
Steve

Yep, those are just self-tapping screws. I would add a couple more to each side when I put the other pair of lights on there. As for the new design, no pics cause I haven't mocked it up yet. Bad thing about putting the lights in front of the radius of the roof is that they will light up the dash and hood so badly, it would be hard to see through it! I put the lights where they are so that the top of the windsheild frame/front of the sun roof frame block the light from the windsheild.

My bar is made of 3/4" electrical steel conduit with 16 gauge steel side plates. If you upped the cross-bar to 7/8" steel tube, made the side plates out of 10 gauge steel and extended them further rearward to hold more screws, this could be a stronger design...

Thats awesome. I like the way it mounts. I was thinking if you ran a support from the main bar like near the top  to the support plate but also made that quick release it would give it much more support.
