Grand Vitara Brakes
« on: December 15, 2003, 06:07:39 PM »
Help!,
I live in Cyprus and have a 2.0 diesel Grand Vitara (auto) 1996 with low mileage, regular service by authorised workshop.
An erratic fault has developed. The front brakes will suddenly apply apply for no obvious reason.
The service station has changed the Servo, Master Cylinder etc. but fault still exists.
Any advice please?

Couldnt this happen with too much vaccum? Or mabey a weak booster. Thats where Id start looking.

Good call Mike, the Diesel engine has almost
no vacuum, so most smaller vehicles have a
vacuum pump, unless you have a hydraulic
brake system, like some medium heavy duty
trucks do, tho the max vacuum you could pull
down is 30" as this is a pure vacuum (nothing left)

You say it's the front brakes, only the front ?? not
all the brakes, this could rule out the servo, altho
that has been replaced, so what could make the
fronts apply without the back ?? or is the ABS bleeding
PSI from the back and not the front, ABS malfunction
of the front ?? I thought the ABS was a passive system
(only works when needed) Does the GV have traction control ??

that could be an active ABS system gone bad.

just some ideas to investigate.

Can you send over some 2.0 Diesels for us ......  PLEASE !!! :-*
