2000 2 DR Tracker needs engine
« on: June 11, 2021, 09:34:27 PM »
First post, tried to find info via search function but I did not see the answer to my question.

I have a 2000 2 Dr Geo Tracker convertible with the 2.0L J20 engine,  The entire car is great, but the J20 blew up (rod through case) and I need to replace that engine.  Sadly, I am having issues sourcing a J20 engine.   If you have a J20 engine for sale, please give me a call at 630 240-9139.

If I cant find a J20 2.0L to replace the original engine, what other engines are the easiest to swap into the Tracker?

Year ,are and model would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I see a number of 2000 four door Suzuki Grand Vitara 4WD V6 engined cars for sale - If I buy a running donor car complete, would the V6 fit in my tracker?  I thought I read somewhere that was a reasonable swap if the V6 was US or Canada built.

THanks

Think about this for a second - why buy a "running donor" with the V6 just to transfer it to your Tracker?  Why not buy it and run it and get rid of the Tracker?  Yes - I understand your Tracker is a two door convertible and the donor will be a four door hard top.

Yes, you can swap the V6 into the Tracker - BUT - you're going to need to swap the transmission along with it, as well as the ECU and wiring harness, you're going to need custom exhaust, and possibly the drive shafts as well, depending on the tires you're running, you might want to keep the original axles or you might need to swap those as well, so really the only way to achieve this swap would be to buy a complete, running donor.  I just don't see it as economical unless you're lucky enough to get a cheap donor with a good drive train, and you have the space, facilities and tools & experience to do the work yourself.

You might be able to broaden your J20 search a little - the J20a was also used on the Aerio
