Weird Electrical prooblem
« on: December 16, 2019, 12:00:28 PM »
I was connecting some extra lights yesterday and thought the relay was bad so changed the inline fuse and relay.  I could hear electrical crackling when I connected the relay but made double sure the ends were connected correctly.  Now my Headlights, Radio, and Dome appear to have stopped working.  Fuses seem good so could it be a burned out bulb or some other fuse?

Any ideas or direction to start?

Yes - get yourself  a meter and learn how to use it.

In my book fuses are either good or they're not - "seemed" is not an option - you can check them with a meter in a matter of seconds, and the same goes for the bulbs.  Look closely at the back of the fuses - there are contact points that you can reach with the meter probes, you don't even need to pull the fuse from the circuit to test it.

Headlights, radio & dome are on different fuses, in fact, each headlight has it's own fuse - if I recall correctly the radio has two power connections, one that powers the radio itself, and a second that powers the radio's memory circuits, and this last one might be the dome light circuit - but the radio will not power on unless both circuits have power.

Turned out to be a 40amp fuse under the hood

Thanks
