 So past couple of days I worked on replacing the timing belt , water pump and some other parts to male it as reliable as possible.  In the process I found the radiator kind of crumbly and ordered another.
I had bought this kit which was specifically for my year and model of Tracker.

 I did have to pull the old studs off of the old pump which was unexpected but not a problem but I found that the new belt was narrower than the old and 1/8" narrower than the pulleys. It was the correct length. Just narrower. Is that right? Should I send it back and get another?  I have a 1996 1.6l 16v auto trans 4wd.
 The other thing I ran into is that the timing cover is a bit chewed up. The lower belt pulley has been rubbing on it for a while. The cover seems to be installed correctly and I can't imagine shimming the accessories and the pulley (balancer) out to get clearance so I don't have a problem with letting it continue to make it's own clearance unless you guys foresee any problem.

Look closely at the belt cover - the edge where it meets the block, you'll probably find some soft black "rubber" inserts that look like they seal against the block - they are swollen from exposure to oil and pushing the cover out so it rubs the pulleys - either trim them with a sharp knife or take them out & throw them away.  You should be fine with the narrower belt.

Thanks! I pulled the cover off and did find the rubber seal swelled and sticking out. I used a sharp knife to trim it close to the cover channel and all is well. Simple.
