I was looking at ordering the RRO 4.4 Megacrawler kit based on it's price raltive to the Calmini and GRP kit.

I have great difficulty dealing with the fact it's $500 cheaper to buy GRP from the states paying transportation, customs and margins each way than buying it from Aus, even after discussions with their owner.

Hence I will not be buying their product.

Has anyone had experience in ordering the RRO and Calmini kits and what is the best bet?

Is the RRO Kit listed in USA or AU dollars? I am running the GRP Rockhopper in my Kick. When they first told me the price I couldn't believe how expensive it was coming from Au. But once I converted the Au. to USA currency, it was only a little more that I expected.

So GRP is located in Australia?

Calmini and Rocky Road Outfitters located in US.

Don't forget a talk about someone in Canada doing a lesser ratio (3.5:1), though you'd have to ship the case to him (IIRC from the discussion on here).

Yes, at the time they did not have a USA distributor yet so the gears had to be ordered directly from them. I dont know if they have one now?

I only have experience with the Calmini gears.  :-/ Im pretty confident that they are indistructable. Ive tried.  ::)  ;D

Calmini have just knocked $100 US off their Rockcrawler, and based on some issues people have had with shipping from RRO and the fact that our club has an order going in ot calmini tomorrow I guess it's gonna be Calmini.

Guess I won't be putting that widetrack axle in for a little while after all.....

Still, I probably need the reduction more than I need the extra travel anyway :D

Yeah..... they're Australian.

Not quite... only wrong by 8000 miles :D

But I've seen shots of his beast and it's pretty awesome.

I'm only running on 31"s and my widetrack axle is on the garage floor not in the Vitara.....

From about 1988 Sierras (that's Samurai's to you) were sold with a wider axle to try and reduce rollover risk.

It's not as wide as a Vitara/Tracker but it's a pretty close fit, and of course it's a "Solid" or "Live" axle instead of the IFS.

I think we all know what that means......

Yea, when I purchased mine, there were no companies in the states that had a 4:1 for the Kicks. I found out about Greg (GRP) from an Australian on a message board and started calling him. I had to do something (33's with stock gears). Greg hooked me up with a set and they have worked great. I have heard alot of great comments about the Calmini set, I'm sure you will not be dissapointed.

I can order air lockers cheaper form the states at present... it depends on the exchange rates.

With the Aussie Dollar at about $0.80 US then it's probably cheaper for you to get US stuff.

I got my snorkel through Safari Snorkels... ($A339) but you're probably better off getting a custom one made in steel and chromed or powdercoated. Less likely to bust on overhanging  branches or rot in the sun.

I have a ARB catalogue around here somewhere..... if you really wanna know $A prices.

Thats OK. It looks like it will be just as cheap to get the studd here. I ended up paying more for my 4:1 from there but I did not want to wait for their release :P.
