I switched my 23 spline for 26 spline sidegears, so Yes you can. Call Hawk on the Axle shaft. They will ship one out today.

OK, something's not registering here:

1991 - 8 valve / 23 spline - I owned one of these
1992 - 16 valve / 23 spline - I owned 1 of these
1993 - 16 valve / 23 spline
1994 - 16 valve / 23 spline
1995 - 16 valve / 23 spline - I own(ed) 3 of these
1996 - 16 valve / 26 spline
1997 - 16 valve / 26 spline
1998 - 16 valve / 26 spline

Get the picture?
Now the 8 valve was ALSO available AFTER 1991, but just because you have a 16 valve does NOT mean you have 26 spline axles.

Ummm, Am I missing something?  The early Kick carriers I have are 22 spline, not 23.  Were there 23 spline too?  Is this a CAMI thing?

No, its 22. Whats up Bobzooki?  :-[ JK Bobzooki, I think we got the point. They were smaller. As far as I know 26 spline is only 96 and up.

Yeah, Hawk can get you set up.  FYI, NAPA sells replacement axles with a LIFETIME warranty.  I don't try to turn my Kick into a Spaceship, like Mike, so I still haven't busted an axle, but it only costs about $70 (after the $50 core) to carry a spare axle.  I'll have at least one with me at Moab.

EDIT:  Oh, yeah - Mike & Tim, you nailed that one on the head - I got kinda carried away there, eh?

I think that the 26 spline shafts dont have as strong CV's as the 22 spline do.And because I have the Anvil set up and I use the driver's side short axle shafts, its easy to use the 22 spline shafts cause their outer ends are 26.So I m thiking about doing it because at least here the 26 spline shafts (inner-outer CV's) break easily.Spanish made. The 22 spline shafts are Japan made. The CV's of 26 spline and 22 spline are not the same.I dont know that for sure ,but I know that some mechanics believe that.

The housing of the 22 spline shaft  CV's is a bit thinner that the 26 spline one and the CV's housing color is green. The 22 spline axle shafts CVs ,dont break as easy as the 26 spline axle shafts CVs do due to their stronger construction. That's what I believe based on what different mechanics told me.Now if I made a mistake somewhere, please someone correct me.

I ve seen pictures of your truck Mike.In the pictures I saw the CVs housing was green.Axle shafts with green color housing are Japanese made. The CV housings of my axle shafts (2001 model, spanish made,26 splines) are a bit bigger (longer and thicker) than Japanese made axle shafts, they have steel/metal  color and the steel piece between the CVs is also  thicker than the 22 spline ones. But they proved to break far more easy than the green color housing CVs,even though they are thicker and bigger.I ll post a photo in an hour to see how it is.

Maybe Europe got a different CV?  Were they build in Japan or Europe?

All the ones I've ever see are green and Jap.  If you say the ones over there are weaker, I'll trust ya and avoid any I see.
