26 spline front axle shafts

i was wondering what year and make did the 26 spline front shafts come on, im trying to figure out if i have 26 or what year trackick i need to get to do the swap, thanks.      shane.

Here in Aussie the 26 spline is in Vitara's from '94 up.. I worked this out from ARB locker info.. if that helps ! :)

In the US, it's 96 and up.  When I converted my 95 to the Anvil, 5.83 R&P's and ARB's, I also had to buy the 26 spline "long inner axle" for the driver's side.  The good part is, once you've done this, you use driver's side outer axles on BOTH sides, and have the ease of the three-bolt flange, to swap out axles quickly.

The outer (hub) ends of the axles are ALL 26 spline.

Doesn't anything with a 16 valve have a 26 spline count?

Absolutely not.  The 16 valve came out in the 1992 Suzukis (later in Trackers).  26 spline axles came out in the 1996 model year.

OK, something's not registering here:

1991 - 8 valve / 23 spline - I owned one of these
1992 - 16 valve / 23 spline - I owned 1 of these
1993 - 16 valve / 23 spline
1994 - 16 valve / 23 spline
1995 - 16 valve / 23 spline - I own(ed) 3 of these
1996 - 16 valve / 26 spline
1997 - 16 valve / 26 spline
1998 - 16 valve / 26 spline

Get the picture?
Now the 8 valve was ALSO available AFTER 1991, but just because you have a 16 valve does NOT mean you have 26 spline axles.

if i pull out the the passenger side axle from the housing will i  be able to count the splines? that will tell me for sure if it is indeed 26 or not right? and also im wondering if ill need the sidegears also for the 26 spline swap and anything else i might need? thanks for all the help.    shane.

Late modle 95's and up was the first time they came with a 16V motor.  So it's almost safe to say that any "Tracker" with a 16V motor is a 26 spline.  

I'd never take anyone's word on anything when it comes to taking parts home.  It's a base line.  Get the part and check it out before you pay for it and take it home.

ya but i think your wrong on the year :-X, i have a 94 tracker 16v so thats why i am confused with it being based on a certain thing because everyones saying different things. but i do need to know what to look for so if i dont have 26 spline i can ctually find some. :D.    shane.

I have a 95 tracker that had 23 spline. Got parts from a 97 to do the GV swap.

I read it as Do any of the 16 Valves have 26 spline, not do all 16V have 26 spline ::)

You're just not getting it.  It doesn't make a bit of difference how many valves you have.  Some Trackers had 16 valve engines in 95, and 23 spline axles.  Some Trackers in 95 also had the 8-valve engine.  If you want 26 splines, you have to go to a 96 or newer.  Period.

And if you go to 26 splines, you have to change your side-gears, too, or do like me, and go to a 26 spline ARB (RD-89 in front, I believe).

Can 23 spline side gears be switched with
26 spline side gears ??? Yes I know this is
going the wrong way, Don't ask, I might
need to swap depending if I can get a 26
long side axle shaft before Moab.
