Crankshaft Pulley 199? sidekick
« on: January 03, 2018, 06:57:05 PM »
It seem I have to replace the Crankshaft on Daughters  1.6 sidekick```

I installed a engine form a~ I thought 1994 sidekick~ wife says 1995 sidekick~ in daughter's 1997 sidekick```

Here's my question: Is there a difference in the Crankshaft pulleys? I want to use the same size belts```

note: when I changed the engine I had to put the old Oil Pan one to allow for the crankshaft sensor```
would both 1994 and 1995 1.6 L engines not have the chankshaft Sensor???

So the Pulleys are the same 1994 - 1997
Thanks

Richard

I could be wrong on this, but I believe the crankshafts on all the G16 engines are the same - I'll check the part numbers later and confirm.  The crank position sensor reads the lower (crankshaft) timing pulley, so the pulleys are different between the 8 & 16 valve engines - the 8V engines don't have the crank sensor, the 16V engines do.

The same part number crankshaft was used from 92~98 - but the pulley numbers are all different.

Greetings fordem~ thanks for coming by~ two thing:

1. RE: the Crankshaft Pulley~ are they the same```

2. The engine~ when I got the engine~ it had no Sensor~ had to change the oil pan to allow for the sensor~ I remember it being said ~it was 1994 wife says 1995```

So the Pulleys are are the same ~ between 1994 and 1997 put the engine in ~ 1997 sidekick```

First - which pulley are we talking about - the timing belt or the accessory drive pulleys?
Second - if the crankshafts are the same, and the crankshaft is what you're swapping - then doesn't it just become a matter of reusing the original pulleys?

So~ having removed the belts~ we~ youngest daughter and I examined the crankshaft pulley~ it looked to the eye to be good``` the land we not sharp and worn```
`````````````````````````
In early inspection to check for pulleys out of alignment~ while there was no misalignment of the pullies~ the belt seemed to ride hard against the engine side of the Crankshaft pulley~ even ride deeper on the side closed to the engine while higher toward the out radiator side~ this is the Alternator belt I'm talking of```
`````````````````````````
We found~ piece of old belt  1/2" long ~ in the outer groove```

Youngest daughter~ with her buck knife and a small wire brush removed that as well as crud until she could see the bottom of the groove```

We reinstalled the belts~ started the engine and belt rode nicely centered on the pulley```

I'm looking to see this as a fix~ I will renew the belt ``` but```

Thanks for the information~ re different pulleys~ same Crank```
