Truetrac rear differential

Is there a Eaton truetrac differential available for the rear for 99-05 vitara/tracker? I’d love one but I can’t seem to locate a match.  I know sometimes they don’t have their application guide listed fully, as they swore they didn’t have one for 2012 Tacoma but I installed one on that truck and it totally transformed the drive feel of the rig in 2 wd it was phenomenal afterward.

As far as I'm aware Eaton has nothing for any model Suzuki, I do believe that Suzuki Sport did offer an LSD, however, it might be difficult to locate one now.

Dude you’re awesome that’s it!  A Torsen style rear diff!  I want!  So, these came factory on some models?  Does my 2003 tracker 4x4 have open diff or one of these?

Hmmm these all appear to be from Russia.   They must have a mfg over there that makes an Eaton style Torsen lsd.  That’s friggin awesome.  I’m going to put this on the short list of wants.   Ps if anyone hasn’t heard of a truetrac or Torsen diff they are brilliant.  They do not have friction clutch packs to wear out or dirty the oil, they don’t require special friction additives in oil, they don’t restrict wheel differential speeds, and they seamlessly and immediately transfer torque as needed.   I live on a gravel street that’s a pretty steep slope and with this device I can back up hill easily on the gavel.  Wet streets are also much more secure with one.  They also respond very well to the “poor mans posi” method of torque modulation.  This is why Humvee uses them in both ends.   They just work!  Here’s how.

I don't know what style of LSD the Suzuki Sport unit was, in terms of availability, it was not a "dealer orderable" option in the sense that the car could be ordered with one, but, it was available for order and installation, it is my understanding that it was factory fitted to at least one model, but only in Europe.

Regarding the Torsen, I have a Pajero that "supposedly" has a Torsen LSD in the rear, I'm not 100% certain if it does, because a Torsen behaves like an open diff if you have one wheel off the ground, so there is no way to really test it short of disassembling the rear end, which I'm not about to do - it is noticeably less "tail happy" in the wet than my GV.

The easy test is what I describe on my gravel street.  If you can back uphill on loose gravel without a lot of wheel hopping drama, then I’d guess it’s got a Torsen of some type.   I mean, assuming you can select 2wd on that, and that the rear wheels are the drive when in 2wd.

Okay back to this I’ve been researching like mad to try and determine if my rear diff is in fact good to go for this Russian lsd.  I’ve read some mention of a change to the rears on these trucks some time in the second gen run.  But when and what?  The Russian says that it will for up to 2004 tracker, but why 04 and not 05?  Do I have a 12 bolt ring gear?  Gah!
If it were summit I’d order it and try but the Russia factor has me a little nervous to order without certainty.

Welcome to the real world - you folks in the US have it easy when it comes to returning incorrectly ordered (or supplied) parts, for the rest of us, it can amount to you bought it, it's yours, and that's one of the reasons I don't have an air locker in the back of my GV, I can't risk dropping a grand without being certain it'll fit.

The only way you're going to get the question answered is to pull the rear third, count the number of bolts and measure the diameter of the differential case.  The Suzuki parts catalog shows the same part numbers for the rear differential case from 99~05, if you have a manual transmission, but, automatics had a change between the 00 and 01 years.

I'm fairly certain you have a 12 bolt diff, but, whether it's a 108 or a 118mm ID is where the real question is, and then you have a Tracker, all of my info is Suzuki and not everything gets carried over.

Well that’s a pisser.  I asked the seller.  They responded that they sell a lot of these to us market and never had a return.  Not sure if that’s because the part fit or because you can’t return to Russia lol.  I guess I’ll be the test mule on this as I really want a lsd on this thing.  It will cost half of what the whole truck did, but hey that’s only because I got it so cheap.

Back in the day, I took the Detroit Locker'ed third member assembly out of my 1997 Sidekick and bolted it right into my 2001 Vitara. If you're swapping the entire third member it doesn't matter how many bolts the ring gear has. Never had any issues with it. There were no clutch packs, LSD additives, or such things on that locker either, but it was pretty quirky to drive on the street, especially parking lots. At least with a welded diff you know it's always going to chirp, not BA-BANG and then kick the rear end out in the middle of a corner!

Yeah I don’t think I want a locker.  That’s the beauty of the truetrac it improves 2wd operation as well as 4x.

Thx for the reply,  The specs listed by the sellers on ebay make it hard to tell if it will fit anyway.

I can't justify an ARB but also don't want a lunchbox locker either as the '97 Sport is intended to be daily driver and we get Ice here in Va alot.
