Power steering pump noise
« on: October 29, 2017, 02:11:18 PM »
My relatively new to me Sidekick Sport has a power steering pump that sounds like it is low on fluid during right hand turns.  My previous Sidekick didn't sound like this.

I am debating whether to use the power stop ump from my wrecked Sport or to upgrade to a TC style pump. My old pump. Has twice the miles on it, but comes off a vehicle that was well taken care of.

Has anyone upgraded to the TC?  Am I over doing things again?

Are you sure the problem is with the pump?  I don't think the pump knows whether you turn left or right, there is one pressure line from the pump to the box and one return from the box to the reservoir.

I'd swap the pump you already have in, before I would consider buying a new one, but, I don't see that as being a likely fix.

Thanks Fordem.  It seems to make noise in both directions, but particularly when turning into my driveway to the right.  I will check it later this week, when I make it back home.

I guess I will pull my steering system from the donor / wreck.  I can rebuild the box and maybe the pump for a swap.  I have an entire front end (control arms, tie rods, center link, idler arm, etc.)  I may as well do the steering at the same time.
