J18 pulley bearings

The following bearings can save you some money when the pulleys start making too much noise.  I saved my old pulleys the last time I changed them out.  Now I can press in new bearings into the old pulleys.

AC clutch bearing - 32BD4718D
Serpentine belt pulleys - 6203-2RS and 6005-2RS

Here are some photos from the bearing replacement.  I used a 1-1/16" socket to press out the old bearing.  I pressed the new bearing in with the old bearing and then used the socket to press it home.

It was about $8 instead of $30. I did idler pulley and the tensioner pulley.

This is the other pulley.  I pressed out the center bushing with a 9/16" deep impact socket and then a larger socket to press the bearing out of the pulley.

Thanks much!  That's very useful info.  I saved the two pulleys from a couple years ago when i swapped them out with the very same intent... to reuse them again with new bearings pressed into them.  Less expensive than buying the pulleys new.   We are all about less expensive.   Less is more better.

It's not a matter of "if" you will need them.  If you keep your truck long enough... you will need them.

Long enough to need them twice?  I also have a set of disassembled pulleys on the shelf - if I ever need to replace again, I'll just get the bearings & press them in.

I seem to replace these bearings more often than other rigs.  That is why I am keeping them ready to install.  I can buy two good bearing sets for less than a complete new pulley.

The other thing to mention is that you don't need a press for this.  You can use a couple of sockets, 2x4's and a hammer.  It helps to have a large vise.  It takes too long to set up a hydraulic press for this task.

My rig spends most of its time a few blocks from the Gulf of Mexico, salt is starting to play havoc on it.  I also tend to wash my rig more than most, partly because of the salt and mud, partly because I am a bit OCD.

This is one of those topics that we need to have a special thread to save and accumulate them for quick, common reference.  When you get into part number details and quick fixes, this type of info can save members both time and money. I'm all about saving time and money on repairs.

A couple of years ago, I started a Gmail and Google Drive accounts called Suzukifiles.  I use the storage space to keep photos of the rig, projects, etc.  I also use the same Google account to store an excel file with part numbers and links to for my rig.  It has all the info for different shocks that will fit, springs, lift types, etc.  I will add the bearing information also.

I guess I should have posted the J18 info in the 2nd Gen area also.
