does anyone have pictures of there twinstick installed in there rig? which one do you guys like? thanks
Here you go. This is Rock4x's kit paired with a dana twin boot. I referenced the part number in the other thread...18606.06 by Omix-Ada. The first pic is the photo that Scott sent me when I was first asking about his kit...that is pretty much what it looked like when I received it. The case boot in the picture was included.
The sticks come straight (as you see in first photo) and you have to bend them outward from each other in order for the knobs to clear. I measured down to a certain point on both shafts so the bends would be symmetrical, used a big wrench to bend them out a bit while holding them in a vise at my mark. AFTER they were bent, I painted them black.
The pics show them in 2-HI except the last one, that shows how close the one stick gets to the console when it is pushed all the way forward to low range.
You can see in pic 3 that my shift handle gets close to the right stick when I am in high range and I shift to reverse (I learned pretty quickly that it isn't any fun to pinch my little finger there, I'm "trained" now to keep my finger out of the way). I didn't know this until after install and at that point, I wasn't ready to take it apart and bend it further again. Not a big deal especially if you run a different shifter handle (mine gets in the way of everything!), it is just something to consider when bending them out.
I cut a piece of rubber with notches to mount under the metal boot flange, that is the main "seal" from the elements.
The twin boot and cover plate make it look decent as well as a "secondary" seal from the elements---and further reduced road noise. The twin boot is UNDER the console plastic, that is what holds it down.
Some low-density foam double-stick tape (the good gray 3M stuff with the red peel-off plastic) is what holds the plastic cover plate down to the inset plastic of the center console.
I made the cover plate at my college's plastic shop while I had access to it (I think I have the dimensions and CAD file on my home computer if anyone wants them. I was thinking about making a bunch and selling them/giving them away on here but realized that my 90 and my 95 had different center console plastics in that area, and it was too much trouble to try to find out what years this pattern would fit).
