87 Sami Mud Bogger
« on: September 08, 2012, 05:28:48 AM »
Had this Sami bout a year now, already done alot of work to it. Mostly cleanup, interior updates...stuff like that. Decided to make it a little more than just a another stock Sami with a spoa lift. I got pretty lucky when I found this Sami, 2 owners before me, first one kept in a garage and hardly use it, second owner did beat it up a little, but did a full body camo wrap... saving the body from more damage. As far as I can tell, it is 99.9% rust free, but not dent free...I will fix that later. I have my own plasma table and shop, so I made all the hangers, perches, shackles, and every other piece myself. Kept the Sami axles, just completly rebuilt them. I'm not real good at doing these build diaries thing, but I thought I would share...thanks everybody on here that I took ideas from...your experience and posting of info helped me alot.

That is a nice looking Sami. I sure wish I was able to do the work u can.  I don't have the tools or skills to tackle that all myself.

Did you buy the trusses for your axles or just make them?

Made them out of retangular tubing, cut the profile in them, stitch welded them on, then siliconed the gaps so water wouldn't get in. Thanks Rob, yeah it's nice to be able to do all the work yourself, besides being able to save ALOT of money , you get enjoyment of the build.....that is for me, the best part. I used to build Choppers, but now I am starting to build offroad toys.

Very cool.  I should just go shadow a guy that welds, if I could do that I'm sure the rest would fall into place quickly.  Right now I have a busy that will help me weld the things I need done.

I'm doing a Samibuild right now.  I won't be going big like you did, just some 32s to help me over the rough spots on the trail.

You sure have a nice Samito start with.

Thanks Eric,.......you know I have done several projects without taking a single pic, then when I finished I wished I had...this time I decided to take a few. I'm always amazed at some of the detail people take in thier build diaries, especially pictures. I usually so involved, the camera never gets turned on, let alone detail any work! Anyway....I am going to take some more pics and post them, and list everything I have done to this Sami....well I'll try.....thanks

Rob,
that's a good idea.....learning to weld and fabricate is a great skill to learn, it will help you tremendously.

So what else do you have planned for your Sami? I finaly nailed down bumpers, wheels/tires, headlights, and I think seats.  I'm going for a trail ready daily driver.  No mud for me, I want to stay clean and dry.
