Another locker question
« on: August 25, 2012, 07:34:07 PM »
I purchased a samurai and verified today that it has 5.13 diffs. The rear end has a spool and I want to put a locker in for streetability.

Does the gear ratio matter when purchasing a locker or is it dependent on the axle splines?

Any input on where and what to buy?

thanks

It doesn't matter the gear ratio, it's the spline count which is 26 and you can use a ARB or Lockright, or Spartan. You can get any of them at Low Range or Trail Tough. I love my mini spool it's much more predictable in turns, and who cares if the tires chirp going around corners.

Thanks for the info.

Doesnt the rear end being locked up put too much torque on the axle/gears when running on pavement?

yes it does, you have to over inflate your tires and not have too much weight on or in your rig.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a spartan locker for the rear end (along with other parts that my wife need not know about!) The sammy was already built for offroad only use when I got it, Now its time to update it with some new parts and make it a little more street worthy  Ill keep you guys posted as I go through it because Im sure I'll need some help with the axles, drivelines and lockers!

Thanks again.
