I have a 1987 Samurai had to park it for 2 month -it was running good then. Now it will turn over but not start. Have checked and have spark to coil and plugs. Fuel pump is working. Can anyone give me advice as to where to go now? I am stumped It is a 1.3 L stock with orignal carburetor.

start off with pouring a real small amount of gas down the carb and see if it runs at all.

check for blocked intake/exhaust (critter nest)

Do this first. If it runs until the fuel is used, start working your way back to the tank. If it starts for a short time after the"small" amount of fuel is poured in the carb and then stops, take the fuel line off the carb and have someone turn over the engine. If fuel comes out of the line, then you have a carb problem. They can get plugged inside. Try this first and let us know.

still will not start when I put gas in carborator. Do I have a carborator problem? I do have a Weber 32/36 DGEV. Would I be better to just switch carbs and eliminate all the smog sensors or just clean up the orignal stock ? I live in the Texas panhandle so I do not think all the pollution stuff would be any thing to worry about.

Don't put too much in. Maybe a tablespoon or two. Don't want to flood it. If there is fuel and it won't start, must be no fire at the plugs. Haven't heard much good about Webers.

Checked fuel line-fuel is getting to the carb. Have spark to plugs-I am not a carb person so should I replace all the vacuum lines before I have the carb rebuilt? And should I stay with the stock carb or is there a better way to go? Must be 10 to 12 feet of vacuum line here but will replace if you think it might help.Seems like the fuel is not getting past the carb and floods itself out.

If it's flooding, the plugs should be wet. If they are, clean them or replace them. Then prop open the choke or have someone hold it open. Crank it without touching the gas pedal. It should at least fire or try to if you are getting spark. If you have to,plug the gas line while you try. Just a thought, have you checked the timing belt?

Cleaned ground conections pulled distributor cap and rotor moves when you turn the motor over. replaced any vacuum lines that looked bad. Still will not fire off--stumped again-I am about to pull it to a shop do not think I can take the carb off and rebuild myself. Tryed starter fluid-sprayed into vacuum line going into the bottom of the carb, almost fired-back to square one? Looking at the distributor it is set all the way to one side? Should be more to the center right? Learning but slow thanks for any ideas

After you try all this are the plugs dry or wet?

plugs are wet-took them out and blew them off reinstalled

If they are wet, I don't think they are firing or at least not when they are supposed to. I actually had a distributer cap go bad once. I drove it to work and parked it and when I came out to go home it wouldn't start. I had power to the distributer but no fire to the plugs. I could be the distributer but I'd try the cap first.

That and check the spark at the plugs by pulling a wire at the plug and stick a screwdiver in it and check for arc when close to a ground such as the engine. Good luckl
