I take it you mean turn over.  :)

It is probably in your starter switch, I would take it apart and clean up the contacts.  One way to check is if your getting 12v at the starter when someone twists the key.

To elaborate Drone367's post:

1.  Take the small starter wire off the starter.

2. connect a voltmeter (or a multimeter set to DC Volts) between the removed wire and a clean metal ground surface on the engine or body.

3. Have someone turn the key while you watch for voltage on the meter.

If nothing happens on the meter, you probably have an ignition switch problem - or you don't have a good enough connection to the meter.

If the meter reading is significantly lower than 13.8 VDC, then you have a dirty ignition switch or a corroded connector somewhere between the ignition switch and the starter.

Sometimes this problem of a weak voltage can be fixed with a "Clicky starter fix" kit.   HOWEVER- since your symptom is "nothing happens when you turn the key", A "Clicky starter fix" probably will not fix the problem.  DO NOT rush out in a buying frenzy to get a "Clicky starter fix" with high hopes of solving the problem!

Work on figuring out what is wrong before throwing more money at your truck!

I hope that this helps!

Check your clutch switch for proper operation and adjustment. Mine was acting up and I put in a toggle switch, now I have a theft deterrent too.

I tend to forget about cut-off switches since I have them disabled on the wheelers.  :)

Yikes!

Forgot that too!

Good post, DonD!

Alternatively, you DO have to depress the clutch pedal to start the engine.... ;)

If you can jump the starter under the hood and get it to turn the engine over then it is most certainly in the starter switch, switch wiring, clutch interlock.

Check the four master fuses under the hood, next to the battery.  (Probably the one closest to the headlight.)  Then check the IG COIL fuse.  (going off memory 1st Gen FSM is in garage)
If not only the starter isn't trying to work and the motor won't try to start, I would be looking at supply voltage.  It sounds like you are not picking up the Fuel  pump relay, Master relay, Starter solenoid.
Do your dash lights come on?

On my Sidekick I sheared the pedal from the cross shaft, so no clutch. I removed the connectors from the clutch interlock switch and used a spare miniblade fuse to jump the wires to get started and headed home. Remember to keep a spare fuse or two in the glove box, no telling when or what you will need them for! LOL

the clutch interlock is only for the starter it doesnt impact/involve the ignition system, if you can jump the starter and it wont start up and run, then I would look at the ignition switch and associated wiring/fuses. Break out the engine wiring diagram and look for a point where ignition and the starter circuit have a common point/source and start troubleshooting from there.
