I had a local clutch shop rebuild mine... maybe you have an option there? Also he flipped my flywheel over rather than having to replace it. I went with 4 puck and copper. Cost me $150.00 total. It does grip very well but probably wont last as long as a factory replacement in a stock rig would. I've swapped in a 1.6 16v.
When I did have the 1.3 carb, stock clutch, and front/rear lockers... the clutch would just burn up trying to climb sand hills. I suppose its what you have access to and what you do with the rig? No lockers, stock engine, small tires... I would probably go OE.
The leg work of pulling the engine vs the frustrations of laying on your back getting to the tranny is worth it to me. I personally like to leave the tranny in if i can... but I dont have a cherry picker/leveler setup either.
Another "depends" situation I guess.
