Is the head getting oiled?
« on: February 29, 2012, 03:05:01 PM »
Guys have mentioned pulling the valve cover to double check its getting oiled and the small passage is not blocked.  So with a 16v running w/out the valve cover on... what will be the signs she's getting oiled?

TIA

Probably an oily mess flying everywhere!   At idle oil pressure in a good 16V should be around 25 lbs hot, up to 60/80 cold when the oil is thicker. It would be hard to see oil flow in the valve train since oil flows internally to cam journals but if you clean everything first you will see plenty of oill gathering in the low spots in the head moving toward the various drain holes at the bottom. There must be a better way to check, someone here should chime in who has one please.

You wouldn't have to run it with valve cover off
If there's oil sitting on top of all the components
Then you know it's getting oil.
You could also take cover off wipe oil off Put back run 15sec
Take off  and check if oil is on top of everything
