Power Steering help Tracker
« on: November 03, 2011, 09:05:12 PM »
Hi all,
The steering gearbox in my tracker recently started pouring fluid out the lower seal (around the main shaft near where the pitman arm attaches).  I was unable to locate a replacement seal anywhere so I decided to get another unit from the local wrecking yard. Now that the other gear box is in place, there is no leak anymore, but it turns real easy to the right, when I turn to the left however it takes considerably more effort.  I'd say the power steering is working in a right turn but not as well as turning to the left.  I jacked it up and cycled through a bunch of turns each direction trying to get any air that may have been in the system out, but it still is harder to steer to the left, especialy when the wheels are faced all the way to the right.   Any thoughts?  I do have a 30 day replacement on the wrecking yard part!
Thanks
Joe

Was the donor vehicle involved in a wreck, hit from the side ? Could be the shaft is bent a bit ? I'd call them and see if they have one to exchange.

Sounds like a bad steering box to me.  Replace/exchange it.
If it was air in the system, it should turn equally as hard in both directions.

Donor vehicle was in good condition, kinda what I was thinking about air in the system as well.  Think I'll just exchange it for another one.

thanks for the thoughts guys!
