16v performance mods
« on: October 18, 2011, 11:42:17 PM »
I just got rid of my sami and bought a more family friendly wheeler about 2 months ago which is a 93 sidekick  jx. Im wondering if there are any engine performance mods that I can do that will boost performance? I have thought about getting a performance cam from lowrange but wondered what else I might do that might even be cheaper.

Here are the specs so far for my rig:
Rebuilt 1.6 16v SOHC motor. [work done at Cleggs auto.]

Rebuilt Head, all new valves seats etc [work done at Warrens in Spanish fork. ]

Full Calmini Exhaust and headers

Calmini 3" Suspension Lift with 3" articulation lift and 2" body lift. Can run 33s without trimming

Calmini differential Drop Brackets

Recently tuned up Iridium plugs, Cap, Wires, and Rotor installed after rebuild.

CD player

NEW Stabilizer links

NEW Shocks

NEW Struts, Strut mounts

NEW EGR Valve

NEW Tie Rods [all around]

NEW ball Joints [All of them]

Calmini Drop Brackets

Upper Rear Ball Joint Spacer

NEW Front and Rear Brakes

NEW Vacuum Control Valves

NEW Valve Cover Gasket

New Timing Belt, Tensioner and Timing Cover

Custom Steel bumpers front and rear

Gas Tank has a Skid Plate.

Installed 5.625 Gears to match the 31" tires [$1000 gears if you can even find them] Speedo is dead on and the low range is lower than most 4x4s . These gears can handle up to 33 tires without killing low range gearing and highway driving.

Motor and head has less than 11K on them. Car has 156K

You've  already done everything that's either easy or cheap, next is either forced induction or bigger motor. Or tune it to run nitro

alittle spendy there. I have a friend that put a turbo on his samurai and will build the manifold and would only charge me for materials so I may go that route but have to research it some more with him and map things out.

Careful on the "cheapness" of a turbo build. Sure, anyone can slap together a turbo manifold and bolt a turbo to your engine, the difference being a cheap, corner cutting time bomb, vs a long lasting, reliable horsepower improvement.
