88 Samurai Cranking Issues
« on: August 28, 2011, 01:49:35 PM »
So here's the deal.

My zuk is cranking over but i feel like its not getting spark. its getting fuel and its trying to start but it wont turn completely over. I thought at first it was my ignition coil and i went to the parts store and bought that. just my luck it wasnt the coil. so the only other thing i can think of is the distributer. The trucks keeping a charge so i know it cant be the alternator.

I also talked to my buddy about it and he said it could also be the Crank sensor? im not sure where that would be haha

So please let me know what you think.

Earl

Exactly what does that mean - is it cranking over or not?

Assuming it's the same 88 Samurai as in your other thread ...

a)  It has no crank sensor.
b)  Was it starting before you "rewired" it?

Why do you feel it's not getting a spark - have you tested it?  There's quite a bit more than the coil and the distributor that can cause a "no spark" situation - bad plug leads, distributor cap, rotor, even a broken timing belt - and if it was running before your rewire job - maybe even a missing wire.
