Gearing Possibilities?
« on: July 15, 2011, 05:41:24 PM »
whats up guys.

So i have these extra front and back axles im going to rebuild with new gears, shafts and hubs. Now my question is what gears should i put in the axles? i want the truck to be enjoyable to drive so something realistic would be nice. I know i want to do the HD 4340 chromoly front axle shafts but gear wise im uncertain with.

So through me some ideas and try to help me out if you can.

Thanks, Earl.

what size tires are you planning to run? and whats your budget?would you prefer it to have a powerband like stock or maybe a bit higher geared for freeway travel? maybe lower geared for off road only? whats your intended use for the rig?
t-case gears are a good option too.

Curently im sitting on 33's but i want to be at 35's easily and comfortable. like i said, its a weekend truck that im going to take wheeling and possibly climbing. i want it to be decent on the highway but great in the woods.

I was thinkin about buyin the 6.5:1 T-Case and not sure what gears to do in the axles. so this is where other people through in their two cents and let me know what they think.

Thanks guys

Worked on a Sammy with 35 MTRs  a set of 5.38 diffs and a 4:1
T-case, after all the work we went out wheeling and in my opinion
it wasn't low enough to crawl rocks, so you might go with a 6:1
T-case and 4.62 or 5.13 gears, tho 5.13s are going to be really low
with a 6:1

Where are you going to find 4.36 gears?
If you want to use trackick gears for a swap, then your choices are 4.10, 4.62, 5.12, 5.38, 5.62.
Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.

I think that would be a good setup, run the numbers through
a gear calculator to see how that setup compares to the stock
gearing to get an idea where you will be

they also have 4.30's from the newer rigs (99 and up) I know because I got a set from trail tough so I could drive on the street with the 6.4 t case.

I did the exact same thing.
4.30 gears with 6.4 t-case.
Has me spinning about 4000rpm at 65 mph and a decent crawl ratio of 100:1
