Need help with front axle!
« on: July 10, 2011, 03:27:52 PM »
alright so here's the deal.

I have a stock front axle off a doner samurai. I took the hub off to get to the drive shaft to then find that the rotor housing was sealed and so was the axle....... i tried pulling the pumpkin apart to remove the C clamp and pull the drive shaft out but i cant seem to get the ring and pinion out.

Please if you have any info or can help please let me know ASAP.

Thank you, Earl

you have to get both axles out of the knuckles before you can pull the third member out. and there are no c-clips in the front axle (I think that's what you meant). pics would be very helpful.

spin those axles around until they will pull straight out. there is a flat spot machined on the birfield that has to be in a certain spot to pull them out.

Do I have to spin them both at the same time, and in the same direction?

man I have to get my eyes checked out, the front spring perches look like they are turned like 20 deg. from one another.

that's just how i had them pointed. there wasn't anything wrong with them. they were just pivoted in different directions. 8)

they're pivotal, im not sure why they're like that but ive seen a couple front axle shafts like that so it doesnt worry me. i know the rear axle shafts are straight.

You might want to index them when you get the axles installed
and the drive shaft in, then burn them into place
