Timing Belt Grooves
« on: May 02, 2011, 06:16:27 AM »
I have a 94 sammm 1.3 EFI.  The installled timing belt has rounded shape grooves on it (may be OE but I don't know).  My replacment has close to square grooves.  Does anyone know what the factory OE was???

Thanks.

Get the 1.3 belt, you have a 1.6 belt

There were 1.3s with both square & round teeth - match the belt to the pulleys.

OK, Never seen one of those with square toothed sprockets, but the
1.6 belt will not fit (too long) the 1.3 engine so that would be a quick
check for the wrong engine belt

After some investigation I found the after VIN JS4JC31C R4100376 they switched to rounded teeth.  Not sure why.  Of course its 3x the price but thats life.  I wish Samurai Parts in SC would tell people that the belt they sell is prior VIN JS4JC31C R4100375.
