Do you know what to torque the bolts on the pressure plate to?  I don't have a service manual.  I think I need to get one.

Clutch pressure plate bolts= 17ft.lbs.
flywheel bolts= 48ft.lbs.

Thanks, I appreciate that.  Just found this site that has all the info I needed. http://www.zookpower.ca/tech.html  Don't know how to make it a clickable link. I'm sure its been posted somewhere here before.

When you instal the throw out bearing, do you loop the one side over pin and slide other side on and let it rest?  The shop took it off, and I didn't see how it goes.  Just want to be sure I did it right.

The 16V trannys will interchange as well, but the 5th gear ratio is higher (lower RPMs at the same speed) than the 8Vs.
Skyhigh this is interesting. Any way to confirm this? A link to some tech specs would be helpful. ;D
I know my 1990 8v has a 0.86:1 5th gear (or 14% overdrive, depending on who you talk to). Curious about this because this would be a very nice solution to those looking for lower highway revs.
I also have a 1995 16v tranny sitting in a parts car...hmm >:D

I have confirmed it myself, several times.  Put the tranny in 5th, spin the OUTPUT shaft 1 revolution, note how far the input shaft turns (it will turn less than 1 revolution).  You have to mark the shafts and turn them very precisely, there isn't much difference between .795 of a turn and .86 of a turn.
Look for some trackick specs in FSMs or owners manuals, they will list the tranny ratios.  I believe there is an FSM on acksfaq.com that shows the tranny ratios and the one listed is .795.  Seems like it is for a 97 tracker maybe...can't remember for sure.

This would be a great upgrade. That would mean in my tracker, for example, that I could swap in 5.38s or 5.62s for a better crawl ratio in 1st gear, but regain my highway-friendly final drive ratio in 5th. I guess it would just depend on how much different that 5th gear is.
Hmmm you've really got me thinking about this now...

The RPM difference at 70MPH is about 300, between the .795 and the .86 ratio.

Yup I know I know. You want me to get those bags done. School will be finished mid May. After that it looks like I'll have some old spare time.
