The exhaust fell apart on The Tracker so I spent the last two weekends replacing everything after the first cat/downpipe with new Bosal and Walker pieces.  The tailpipe was missing two of the four hangars it should have had so I'm wondering if the cat is missing some support here.

Behind the cat itself, on the pipe heading back to the flange is a tab with two holes in it on the passenger (US) side of the truck.  Directly above it but offset to the driver's (US) side of the truck on the floorboards is a triangular shaped bit of metal with some holes in it.  Wondering if something should be here or if these have some other purpose?  Without a rear mount the cat is only supported by the spring bolts at the front and the one mount near the front d-side (US).  This might be okay since the tailpipe has four supports.  Just wondering.

The Vitara 2.0 has something called Damper, Exhaust Pipe, Suzuki Part# 14260-65D12 fitted in that position.

It doesn't show a fixing to the chassis, and I would have though a damper was just a weight to eliminate/reduce vibration.

Huh.  No clue.  Long gone on mine.  As was the stock muffler, about two hangars, the resonator, and all replaced with a bunch of booger welds, clamps, and soup can like pipe.  On the stock cat there's some busted surface weld there as if something was attached there at one point...but no clue what.  Perhaps a different version of that tab?

Sounds so much better and honestly I think it runs better.  No more drone and seems to have a low end again.

I just had my second cat took off on my 01 and it had a hanger on it. Theirs no downdraft o2 so I see no reason to keep it anyway

Notice any difference in sound or performance?  I ordered it without looking and only later realized mine didn't actually have an O2 sensor after the cat.

AJM, I took off my 2nd cat about 2 months ago as well after I noticed the 2-bolt coupling flange had rusted through on one side of the flange and was barely retaining the spring on that side.  It wouldn't hold a new donut gasket securely so I had the mechs cut the engine side of the pipe flange off and replaced the 2nd cat with a section of exhaust pipe with a four inch section of stainless flex in the middle to "flex" with the engine torque as needed to replace the spring loaded joint.  I didn't notice if there was a hanger on the stock cat or not.  I even forgot to grab the damned thing to pawn it off at a metal yard for the metal content value.   As stated... the 2nd O2 sensor is upwind of the 2nd Cat so it didn't change the sensor reading but undoubtedly did reduce some back pressure.  Performance change?  Can't say I have noticed any to date.  May have... but I haven't done anything which makes changes stand out good or bad as far as performance.  Sound?  I would have to say the exhaust tone in the pipe became a little more "throatier" or deeper sounding when cruising.  Lost some of its buzz when cruising at 2500-3000 RPM.  Would I do it again?  Yes.  To me it was more cost effective than buying a 2nd Cat of dubious value.  Still knocking out some decent MPGs too.
