1.6L MFI injector question
« on: March 17, 2011, 12:12:09 PM »
Ok guys. Got a 1.6l 16 valve. Seems I got a bad injector. Can't give it much throttle until u get it wound up. Code reader said bad injector. Is there any easy way to find which one. Any injectors I can grab junked that might work other than original.

On the 16V suzuki engine the injector plugs are damn near impossible to get to without removeing a whole bunch of other parts first. Maybe you can take a look at the plugs and look for differences in color.

A quick way to find a dead hole that may point to a bad injector is to spray water on each individual exhaust runner and see which one is cold... Of course you need to be able to see each runner separately and don't wait for the hole manifold/header to get heat soaked then all the pipes will be warm... SO, start it up let it warm for 30 seconds or so and spay a fine mist of water on each tube close to the head. "good" cylinders will boil/steam the water off while a poorly runing cylinder will not... It'll take you longer to read this and find a squirt bottle than to do this test.
 :)
Good luck, Eric

Ford Escort uses a Bosch style injector and it's the right size to be a replacement
but you would need to replace all of the injectors, not just the one unless they
are identical in flow to keep the engine tuning with the computer on track.

If you have one larger injector and it is causing a rich situation it could make the
computer lean out the other cylinders to offset this condition and you would loose
power, you might get better fuel mileage but it might just bite you also

what was the code? Many times the codes last # corresponds to the cyl #.

Ok I got a temp gun at work. If I swap all injectors do I need a ecm tune!? I did when I put 60 lbs injectors in my big block. I didn't know if the ecu controlled the injectors or not in these motors

You can "tune" this computer by swapping the sizes of injectors

Check the #s for the PPH (pound per hour) or ML per/min
if they are too big you will swim the pistons in gasoline

All of these style of injectors look similar, and can go from 12-15 ish
to 60+ PPH, so I say again Size is what you need to look for and then
you need to make sure they are high Z or high ohm injectors to protect
the EFI computer from injector overload, you can burn the injector drivers
if you use low Z injectors

Ok looks like research is going to be needed. What pound injectors are in the 1.6 motor stock? I can't suppose anything over 20. Small block Chevy's are only 24lbs stock. Ill do some research on the eclipse injectors.
