Just another SAS Tracker
« on: February 22, 2011, 04:44:20 PM »
Hey all. I have been around this site for a while and thought I would finally post up some pics of my 94 Tracker. It is nothing special but it gets me to where I wanna go. I bought this with the idea of it being my dd/wheeler and it has performed that dual role very well. As we all know the bigger, better, faster bug hits and the line between dd and wheeler becomes obscured. Right now it is still my commute vehicle and used when the wife is out with the other vehicle. Enough babbling. Here are some pics.
This is when I got it.

Shortly after buying it I had to lift it and put 31's on it

My goal is to run 35's so I installed a 2" body lift. When I did that I found the rear crossmember had some rot so I cut it out and put some tubing in to take its place. I thought it was a good time to raise the gas tank also.

Just finished my bumper with a Warn M8000 winch. The control box is under the hood. It is also now sitting on 33/10.50/15's
It also has a Spartan locker up front, welded rear and 4.24 Tcase gears.

Did you try to synchronize your icons or was that just a happy coincidence?  :D

It looks good, what are you running for gears in the axles and how does it drive on the road?

Thanks Drone. LOL I just noticed that now that you mention it. I am running 5.13 gears. It is ok on the road but definately sluggish compared to stock. Fortunately for me I am about 5 mins away from the start of my usual wheeling spot. This is my dd but my commute to work is fairly short. The 4.24 gears are a must for offroad. I am either going to do a doubler or just buck up for an undertaker. I have a set of Toy axles that I am rebuilding with 5.29 gears and want to go with 36-37" tires.

Nice clean Tracker allout!!! I'm digging the chrome sims in the first pic. :)  I'm thinking of putting a set on the wifes Tracker because she said stock it looks like an old mans Tracker.

Where did you mount the control box for your winch under the hood? I have enough room on the passenger side up front by the radiator but I really don't like it there.  With the battery in the stock location I'm having a hard time finding a good spot.

Thanks smife. Funny thing is those are not chrome rims but just some cheap plastic hubcaps that you would buy from Walmart. They came with the Tracker. They looked good from afar but up close looked bogus. I mounted the control box where the windshield washer bottle sits. Right now I am running without the washer bottle but found a smaller one to mount in a different spot.

Thanks allout. I thought those hub caps where "sims" my spelling may be wrong. They are like a wheel "skin" That is chrome. All the new vehicles have chrome sims instead of chrome rims. Its just a plastic hub cap but it conforms to the wheels shape.

I still have my washer bottle. I actually put dual squirters on my cowl panel for maximum winshield cleaning.

Thanks Joe. As a matter of fact I just put mine in that exact spot today. It pretty much fits like it belongs there.  ;)

The rear was pretty simple. Just used XJ coils and cut just enough off the coil to fit over the bump stop tube. Extended the stock bumpstop tube and captured the coil on the axle. I did this because I had the coil pop out a couple times. I have cavalier rear shocks and made lower shock mounts that are higher up on the axle. I had purchased a spare rear axle and it came with a modified Y link. They had cut the center out of it just enough to weld a piece of tubing in then put a huge threaded bushing on the end. Welded a bracket on the top on my housing for the bushing to fit in. It works but is kinda bogus. I have already made another Y link and will do it better when I move the axle back and extend the lower links at the same time.
