That is the normal/power switch.  I changes the shift points and prevents the transmission from going to OD.  Used on 4 speed and 5 speed automatic transmissions.
That is just the switch that grounds the computer causing the changes listed above.

I'm sorry man I don't understand what you mean, i'm new to 4x4s.

It is more of a computer thing then a 4x4 thing.  The button in question changes the shift points on your transmission, so it shifts at higher rpm's and downshifts faster. 

The switch just grounds out the connection, so you can replace it with pretty much anything and just run the wire from your computer to a ground point somewhere on the body.

It does change the shift points (but I haven't ever really been able to tell much difference, no matter which way it is flipped).  But I don't recall that it keeps the tranny from going into overdrive.

Depends on the model I believe.  We went through a lot of troubleshooting on the 5 speed automatic for the XL7.

Ok.  Might be right for the xl7.  But for the 4 speed sidekick auto it isn't...and I figured that was the one that he was talking about, since that was what the switch fit that he linked.

It's pretty obvious on mine.  Really only seems to help much when towing, though.

And you're right, the one in 1st gen XL-7s doesn't lock out overdrive, either.  There's a separate button for that.

Yes.  Works the same on all models.  The switch & wires ground a point in the ECM/TCM to alter shift patterns.
