I think you are talking about the Yamaha TW200, not the taller Suzuki DRZ400?
Well, the TW200 was the shorter, fat-tire bike.  I really enojyed riding it on the trails!  You can get them used for anywhere from $1000-$2500K, depending on year and condition.  Brand new they are ~$3800.  They haven't changed much throughout production: 1987 to current.

Ok, I couldn't remember which was which.  I'm just looking at something in the 200cc range.  I'll probably look at all of them starting out-just find a bike in decent shape to get me started.  It's been over 20 years since I rode a bike offroad and that was a little 125cc when I was 14 or so.  From there I went to a Samurai when I was 15 and haven't really looked back since. 

Still I think a small bike would be fun and they allow you to run all the ORV trails that Samurais can fit on, but aren't allowed to run.

Many friends here in Oregon are getting plated (street-legal) dirt bikes as well, for the same reasons... More places to ride where the 4x4's aren't allowed... plus 70mpg is really nice.

I think Kane Creek Trail was my favorite in Moab this year!

Around OK they are closing a lot of the riding areas to 4x4s.

The 4x4s have become a lot larger/etreme in the last few years and many of these people aren't happy with the existing trails (not extreme enough or wide enough) so then they start making their own trails by cutting down trees or driving up gulches which dramatically increases erosion.  They are about to close the nearby ORV park (Camp Gruber) for such reasons.  

The Kane Creek picture looks cool too.   Looks like it would be a fun place indeed.

I have a TW 200 also.  They are a great bike to learn on.  This is a pic from Fins n' Things, it was my favorite trail.

Fins n Things was fun.  I ran it on Friday and it was the very first trail I ran at Moab back in 2000.  Kinda like Hell's Revenge lite.

You know, I've never ran that trail but want too... This year, we did Behind the Rocks for the first time and I enjoyed that trail... There are some pretty hard obsticles and some nice high speed sand too... Nice mix.
