These Zuks are actually very hard to flop over . . .  even when you pick a very bad line & misjudge the depth of the rut!

I did not let out of the gas but it stopped pulling completely when it got so far over.  Did I starve the auto trans of fluid or why did that happen?

Good question. I'm sure that's possible, but I've had mine way over like that a few times and never experienced that. I do have more fluid in mine though due the the extended lines and trans cooler. Maybe that makes a difference  ???

I have a 3 speed, I'm thinking your two have the 4 speeds, but I
have to overfill mine by almost 1 quart so it won't stop driving on
steep stuff like that

BP and I both have 3 speeds.  No trans cooler on mine.  
I'll will start overfilling it!  I did not at all like the way it quit pulling!

When I pull the stick to check the level it's about 2" over the top of the
clamped band that holds the metal part that has the fill marks on it

Just wanted to say hello from Harlan, KY. I just got an 87 Samurai about 2 months ago, and I've really enjoyed it so far. I just found my way to this forum recently, and I wondered if you guys make the trip over here to the mountains much...

Welcome to the forum & congrats on the Sami! 
Black Mountain park is awesome but we don't get there often enough!!  We came over for the Fall Crawl last month but just as spectators, couldn't bring the rigs with us.  Are you a member of the Kentucky Mountain Crawlers?

Right on the limit. Well placed camera man, if the trench had been the opposite incline ,it would have fell over......did you have the box  in 4wd or could it be a quirk of the auto g/box sudden change in demand for torque,,,, Try and replicate  (only joking) ......derkiow

Was in 4WD hi.  Why do you say it would have over if it been the opposite side?

The driver weight is acting as a counter balance. If the driver was sitting on the opposite side of the car or the incline was the other way round your mass would be helping to tip the suzuki over.. the reason i asked about the 4wd drive was , if it was in 2wd the jeep would have stopped going forward as soon as a rear wheel lifted up , unless you've got  a rear locker fitted. I could'nt comment on auto boxes at extreme angles .Never driven one at that sort of tilt I'll leave that to you and it is still an excellent video ....... derkiow
