sidekick tranny questions
« on: October 28, 2010, 10:41:34 PM »
ok so I have a 95 sidekick im helping a guy part out and he cant find the cover that goes over the automatic stick on the transmission that says drive and all that. I have a guy wondering if its a 3 speed or a 4 speed since the 3 speed will fit in a samy but I dont know how to tell which one it is. Can you guys help me find out how to tell please or tell me what came standard for it? Its a 95 sidekick jx with 4 doors 4wd and a solid hardtop not a convertable.

The 3 speed has a GM and Made in France on the data tag on the side of the trans
4 speeds were made in Japan by Aisin  (Toyota)

The Data tag can be seen with the trans sitting on it's pan,
no lifting required, it's on the side of the casting

It is because it is a 4 door.  All 4 doors (except 91) had the 4 speed auto.

what a bummer because dan at lowrange said the 4 speed is too big to put in a sami and that only a 3 speed would work. :'(

Nothing is too big for a sami !!  It just depends on how much cutting and fab work you want to do.   IMO, the auto's look gay in sammis because they sit so high up off the tunnel.

I'm all about stealth fab work, and making it look OEM.

I wouldnt want to put one in mine either, having a stick helps me stay awake on long trips. I just wish it was a 3 speed so I could sell it better.
