Well, I must admit that the sound of an open exhaust sounds OK with a turbo whistle added in there

 ;D

I love the sound of turbos or a blower setup sounds awesome too (although never heard either on a Zuk yet, I don't know anyone personally offline that has a Zuk with a turbo engine)

had a glasspack on for a week the drone was so horrible my head felt like it could have exploded, a thrush oval muffler or any chambered muffler should add a nice tone off acceleration and not be to loud while cruising id say 2'' all the way back would be the best bet

I have a 1.6 and im running a 2.25" pipe no cat n a borla which gives it a slight ricer tone but its not to bad. The cab noise at anything about like 3 grand though can get kinda loud but i got used to it after about the first 2 days.

I put a 2.25 Cherry Bomb Collector muffler on my Sammi. Right now it just dumps out of the Cherry and agreed, ITS LOUD AS HELL!. I think with a little bit of pipe, and maybe reducing it to 2 inch, it should quiet down. Plus they are cheap, and they dont take up much room unlike a 40 series. And I agree with how TOUGH they are, once had one puddled with gas on a firebird that backfired 4 foot of flames but the 'muff stayed tuff!

Don't forget that you need to have a spark arresting device of some sort for a lot of ORV areas and State/Federal parks.  A traditional cherry bomb muffler won't work due to it's straight pipe design.  They look down on 4 foot flame backfires for some reason.  :D
