Might have overheated motor.... now what?
« on: September 02, 2010, 02:18:43 PM »
My sister's BF might have overheated my 'kick... can't get  it started.  Where do I start? I'm draining oil, will check the fuel filter... changed plugs.

Overheating causes a loss of compression from fried valves and rings, so you
need to start with a rebuild and get the head checked for warp and seats
that may have loosened  up, ohh ya, and have the sister and BF pay for the
damages

I was going to go with prayer as the best option.  If your lucky shaving down the head (to fix the warp issue wildgoody mentioned) and a new head gasket will be enough to get it rolling again.

let me give you a worst case, it happened to me.....many years ago by my first wife.....

I was informed the tracker broke down a mile from home, well upon checking it I determined it was a blown head gasket, when I cranked it blew radiator hose, then repaired & took cap off to have a raidator like a geiser, it also had an exhaust leak & didnt hear my other problem, ok so time to do a top end. well fix it & get it running to hear it knocking. huh? what happened? then it was "oh it started doing that while driving a couple miles back" while it was  overheated. humph! well I take it down road for a test drive & a couple miles from home the piston broke loose from the rod & went through the block. KABOOM! all because she didnt want to walk home she tried to drive it as far as she could instead of parking it & finding a ride or getting a TAXI.

my solution was a brand new engine from Advance Auto, & under 1 year after we broke up she gave her tracker away. & until recently I havent been around Trackers, & presently trying to find one.

so if was overheated bad enough you may hear wrist pin slap.

Later,
Randy
