4spd automatic interchangeability

I have to choose between a 1st gen 4 spd or a 2nd gen for use in a '97 4 door I'm building up and I'm trying to determine which to use. Are there ECU issues with the lock-up torque converter or anything else? Also, are there differences in the transfer cases? I will be running 31X10.50's so that means I'm keeping the 5.12:1 diffs. Just lookin' for the best combo.

What are you calling 2nd gen?

I thought all the 4 speeds were made by Asian?

Whoa! How time flies - Okay, I'm back. To me, 2nd Gen means 99+. What I was wondering was if the plugs are different or the lock up torque converter sequencing or anything of that nature.

You might ask about parts interchangeability at a pull it yourself auto
dismantle yard, some here will tell you what other cars or years also
have your same part. Also an internet search might list compatable
transmissions and the years they fit

SIDEKICK 4 DOOR      92-98      4 SP 2 & 4WD      L4 1.6L      03-72LE

IIRC The trans and T-cases are the same down to the output shaft spline count.
