I recently bought an 86' sammi that I was having an absolute blast in until I went out for the last ride.
From the beginning of the day when I got to the mud event, I was being modest and just doing water crossings up to maybe the door bottoms, or floor boards.
Intermittently, the motor would studder in water with what I could guess was an ignition problem. But as soon as the hole/crossing was finished, it would rev out like normal.
I went out one last time and as soon, and I say as soon in literal terms, as I hit the water going at a slow creeping speed, the motor cut out completely with the sammi up to the floor boards in soupy mud. This hole I had been doing all day, but it dipped in and shut off completely.
We pulled it back to camp, trying to jump start it numerous times with no luck. Once we got to camp, we swapped 2 coils into it out of working sammi's. Nothing. We pulled it to see if we had spark, in gear, and got nothing.
The distributor looks brand new.
Now, it has sat for a month since it happened since I had been recovering from surgery and now I have the O.K. to walk around and get this thing going again.
Can anyone give me an idea of where to start? I am a motorcycle technician, but stumped why this isnt firing. Please help!
