toyota parts
« on: June 24, 2010, 11:50:29 AM »
hi all,
I found an 85 toyota sr5 at a good price. I have a 88 samurai.
How big a deal is it to replace entire samurai drive train w/ toyota parts ( motor to rear axle)
Hope this is enough info.
thanks

It's not too bad.I'm around 75% done with my full toy swap.I'm using a 22r(looking into swapping TBI from a dodge or chev 4cyl) swapped the axle's,rear toy spring's all around, toy 5spd,single case with 4.7's installed next year for an upgrade.I'm in process of building a mount/skid for the t-case,cutting rear perches off rear axle and rotating it to use a toy front CV shaft, then finish buttoning up the drivetrain-driveshaft's,making sure all u-bolt's are tight, etc. Then get the wiring done, steering, mount a toy radiator, remount the front clip.

I found a 4wd toy-an 83',pulled everything I needed and junked the rest...Make sure you take the motor mount's off because all you need is to plate the samurai frame and weld them right to them. You will need to modify the trans tunnel depending on which trans you use, driveline's etc...

I cant wait to see how the 22r scoot's it around, the old 1.3 just didn't have any juice.
