**************Samurai Yota axle help PLEASE
« on: June 11, 2010, 10:21:57 PM »
I just bought an 87 Samurai project that needs to be finished. It has the Toyota axles under it with spoa.

*** First question is, what type jeep springs do I need to upgrade to for the smother ride? What years work? Will springs from an 88 jeep work?

Please don't reply with XJ, TJ, YJ ....I just don't know those differences yet. I need to know Cherokee, Wrangler, Comanche....etc.

*** Secondly, These Toyota axles need the brake calipers & rotors. I think the guy said they were from an 85 4runner, but not sure. I do know he said they need to be the double piston calipers. Looking through salvage yards, can anyone tell me what all years may work and from what all Toyota's I can use?

Any advise would be great.

the leaf springs you want are from a jeep wrangler YJ  (square headlights convertible ;D)
several companies make YJ spring adapters.. I have seen sky's in action and it worked well but there are plenty to choose from as well as plenty of home built options.

yes the 4 runner calipers and fj80  rotors fit onto the toyota truck axles. The rotors are vented and the calipers are two piston. This is a common upgrade. You could just run toyota pick up standard hard ware too. I am running the upgrade version and am very happy with it.

there is some good information here on the brakes..

a quick google search will get you the majority of your information..
