16 valve??????
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:14:52 PM »
right now i have a 89?? suzuki sidekick 8v. i have a buddy that has a 8v and now just bought a kick with a 16 v in it and says the 16 goes alot better then the 8. i am thinking about buying a 16v out of a parts kick. is there a weakness to the 16v engines that i should know about??? and is this a good engine to swap or is there better engines to swap in? i wanted an engine that would bolt right to my trans and the 16 would if i am correct. i would like a engine that would bolt right in with minor work. is this a good route to go or should i just stick with my stock 8valve??

So you have a stock 1.3L 8valve or a 1.6L 8 valve?

With any engine swap, you are going to have to swap the engine wiring harness and ECM too.
The 1.3 carbed, 1.6 8V EFI, and 1.6 16V EFI used in trackicks all use the same tranny.  The only difference is that the carbed 1.3 uses a different bellhousing, but the main part of the tranny is the same....so it is a simple bellhousing change, if you want to use a 1.6 engine on a 1.3 trackick tranny.

1.6 8valve, is there noticable power between the 16 v 1.6 or is it not worth it and should i just keep my 8 v 1.6???

The 16V has 15 more HP than the 1.6 8V.  The torque comes on a little quicker on the 8V, so some people prefer the 8V over the 16V, if they use it off road a lot.
Personally, I would pick the 16V over the 8V no matter if I ran mainly on road or off road.

More HP.
The overall torque is slightly higher on the 16V, it just peaks later in the RPM band (I can't remember the exact numbers).
No weak links that I can really think of.  The 8Vs and 16Vs actually use the same block and a lot of the same internals.

okay thanks for the help.im still really thinking about it. im not a huge fan of all the wiring and everything that would be involved but i guess it wouldn't be too bad. i will be looking for a 16v for a good deal.
